Our Mission

WEGA (Wabash Economic Growth Alliance) is a private, 501c3 non-profit, formed to address the economic development needs of rural communities.  Although it serves in the traditional role of an economic development corporation (EDC), it also focuses on specific initiatives designed to solve challenges that are uniquely rural.

Over the last 50 years rural communities have suffered from a flight to higher education and the urban workplace. They have also suffered from a reduced number of births and an aging population. In the previous decades, changes of this nature would have been offset by new investments and retooling. In the information age, however, new investments focus less on available natural resources and more on the availability of fiber networks and a specialized workforce. Given the freedom to choose where they work employers and employees often choose urban areas based on their “richness of amenities”.

This trend seems to be changing with the installation of rural fiber networks and an urban workforce that desires to live more simple lifestyles. We believe rural communities are the best places to live and work and could become attractive economic growth centers again. We also believe Indiana needs to unlock its great rural advantage to meet the workforce of tomorrow. After 50 years of decline rural communities require new investments. Revitalization also requires fresh ingenuity and innovation. WEGA serves to innovate solutions and to prepare rural communities for the next generation.

To make something fly is the stuff of

 childhood dreams and imagination.

To make a piece of paper fly

well, that's just inspired, technical and fun.

Many may think of paper airplanes as childhood follies and yet they hold profound truths about fulfilling dreams and achieving goals.  The act of creating is a process.  Every new endeavor starts with a dream; then discovering how; followed by trial and error; and eventually, full execution.  Our ideas may change during this process.  And quite possibly, we may change as well.  It is the same process regardless of age or intent, however.

Creativity isn’t always an original endeavor or even “thinking outside of the box”.  Many times, it is just the natural process of gaining understanding or connecting the dots.  Did you invent the paper airplane on your own as a child without reference or teaching?  Or did you ask someone to show you how?

WEGA, Wabash Economic Growth Alliance, is in the business of helping people and communities make their own paper airplanes.  We devise tools that help solve challenges and streamline the journey of growth.

  • We serve as a strategist for rural communities seeking economic growth.

  • We serve as an incubator for entrepreneurs starting new businesses.

  • We serve as an accelerator for developers and investors committing to build.

  • We serve as a trusted partner for philanthropists seeking an inspired middle class.

Our tools are specifically designed to help you and yours achieve flight, that is, a stable and growing economic future.
